The perfect DIY for back-to-school!
A few months ago Urban Outfitters was having one of their huge sales. I left the store with 4 pairs of high waisted shorts. Including these two denim numbers for $10 each. Not even mad.
Trying them on, they fit fine. But, after keeping them on for a longer period of time, I decided they were just a tad too short to feel comfortable in. I wanted to add some length to them in a cute way.
I went to Jo-Ann's and bought some lace trim (located in their ribbon section). I bought this one for the dark denim and this one for the lighter wash. If you are looking to add length, try to get a lace close to 2 inches. If you are just looking to add some cute detail, you can go for something shorter.
Now, I was feeling rather confident and went to Jo-Ann's without measuring around the leg holes of my shorts. I bought 1&1/2 yards of each lace and had JUST enough. I was lucky. I definitely recommend measuring before you go to the store!
First, I turned my shorts inside out. Then, I began to pin the lace around the leg of the shorts. I made the start and end of the lace between the legs to hide the edges a bit.
Tip: Cut-off shorts like these have a lot of fringe on the edge. Your stitches will be too weak on the fringe, and your lace may fall off. So, you'll want to sew your lace just above the fringe.
Next, I ran them through my sewing machine with a standard stitch. I did my best to pick a color of thread that complimented the denim.
Then I turned them right-side-out, and done! Yay.
I used the exact same process for the dark denim shorts.
I hope you give this a try. It is easy and super fun!
