Good Afternoon folks!
I'm trying to write this post super fast so I can get it posted today! Which means there is more of a chance for typos. You'll laugh. You'll love it. Let's get to the project.
My bolster pillow post revealed a picture of this monogram art piece. It is super duper simple! I used Tom and I's married monogram because it would be hanging up in our bedroom. But, this is definitely a project you can make just for yourself, your office, or for your children. Also try a different application like spelling out a word or scaling the project down to display on your desk.
*Just a helpful tip: Make sure to look up monogram etiquette when making one for yourself. Married couples' monograms always have the bride first, last name initial, then the groom.
Alright, first you will need some supplies:
- 1 Canvas board
- 3 Wooden letters (Mine were left over decorations from my wedding shower.)
- Painter's Tape
- Paint
-Paint brush or roller
- Ruler (I used a sewing gauge.)
I wanted to mimic the pattern of the fabric on my bow pillows. I used the bag the sheet-set came in to match everything up. Lucky for me, the white stripe in the pattern was the same width as my painter's tape. I measured the gray stripe with my sewing gauge, and marked it. Then, I began to stick the tape down wherever a white stripe should be, leaving enough space for the gray strip in between.
Then I got my favorite miniature roller, a paper plate, and some paint (left over from a sculpture project Fall 2012). The gray I had was a bit darker than the gray in the fabric, but that was okay with me. I rolled a nice even coat all over the canvas.
For the cleanest lines, peel the tape off when the paint is still wet.
Then I painted the letters with my favorite lime paint also used on my dressers and earring holder.
It took quite a few coats to get the coverage I was looking for.
After they dried, I stenciled a little embellishment on the center C. I used the same stencil and stenciling techniques as in my dresser project.
I glued the wooden letters onto the canvas with hot glue. I did a lot of 'shake tests' to make sure they were secure. I even dropped it (on accident) when I was hanging it up and they stayed on, so I'd say it is pretty sturdy!
Final step was putting the canvas into the frame, and hanging it on the wall. This is the frame I meant to order, and instead ordered this frame. But, that's okay, because it all turned out okay. Now I have two wonderful art pieces.
Here are some pictures of the monogram hanging in my bedroom.
Next post I'll being showing off my finished yoyo quilt!
