June 5, 2014: I completed my yoyo quilt.
This project has been SIX years in the making. Can I get a woohoo? I am finally done. Now, I have no idea what to do with myself while watching tv. This was my thing! My hands just keep moving as if I were sewing invisible yoyos together. Not really, but it has been a weird feeling that it is done.
Last time we chatted, I had sewn together the large squares. It took me about two months after that to complete the quilt. It is amazing how quickly these last few steps went. And now it is done and has a new home in our bedroom.
Now this guy is pretty large. As you can see it nearly covers my full-size bed (It has just as much over-hang on the other side). The final measurements were 5'x7'. This will make it the perfect size to generously cover a twin bed, and be a coverlet for my full bed, which was my goal.
I love the mixture of colors and patterns. The quilt is rich with visual and actual texture.
From far away, it has a pixilated effect, which I think looks really cool. It almost looks Tetris inspired. Doesn't it just look oh-so-perfect with my eyelet dust ruffle?
Now, since this is a very busy quilt, I usually keep it folded at the end of our bed for an accent. When I have it open, as the main event, it gets too cluttered with the all the pillows. I like mixing colors and fabrics, but I do know when it crosses the line of just looking crazy.
A lot of people have asked me if I am adding a back to it. The answer is no. I am keeping it open, just because I like that look. I really enjoy seeing the color of my bed spread show through the open parts. My intention was never to sleep with it or use it to keep me warm. It serves primarily as a decorative piece.
I did add a special detail on the back of one of the corners. Not the prettiest embroidery, but I was so excited to be done!
"08-14 CCC"
This represents the years I spent working on it (2008-2014), and my initials (CCC). Isn't weird that those weren't my initials when I started? Tom and I hadn't even met yet. Crazy! So long ago.
Above, you can see how I attached the yoyos together since we are looking at the back.
If you want to see what this quilt was like 'in progress' and hear the story about it read this post and this post.
I just had to add a couple more photos of these bow pillows. Just because I love their embroidered detail so much.
Okay, okay. I think I done rambling.
Thanks for following along on the journey that was this quilt.
Also, I have hit a break in my blogging where I have pretty much blogged about all my recent projects and I don't have many projects lined up!
A couple of things that could be in the future: ReFashioning Clothes, More details about my wedding, or some of my favorite scrapbook pages/papercraft. Let me know if any of these sound appealing!
