New Designs and My Inspiration

I have 23 new printable art listings! Yay!

I actually listed all of them last Thursday before I went out of town, and they have already been bringing in a good amount of views and favorites which is very exciting.

Nearly all of the ones I posted were from the scripture/hymn request list that you all helped generate! There are a few that are missing because once I scanned them, and looked at them next to the other designs, I wasn't happy with it and knew I could do better. Life of an artist! I'll be working on those over the next few weeks. In the meantime, look over all my new listings and continue to request scriptures or (public domain) hymns you would like to see!

With my past scriptures, I have used the exact scanned image and digitally removed pencil and other stray marks to create the printable file. This time I vectorized them. That might not mean anything to you because they look practically the same. However, this is very cool and you should be excited. I was able to scan and list all of the designs in one day. With my past method this would have taken me weeks. Also, I'll be able to easily change colors and scale. Colored prints people! Get Pumped!

You can purchase and view all the designs here on my Etsy Shop.

There were a couple of scriptures I put on the list. The one I am going to talk about in particular is Revelation 21:2. Over the past 8 months, I have been studying the book of Revelation with Bible Study Fellowship.  I had never studied Revelation in depth, and it has been cool to examine it line by line. The book is packed with A TON of imagery and detail. It is so complex. My study bible has never been so helpful.

The idea for this print came to me when we were studying Revelation, chapter 12.

"And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth." (Rev 12:1-2)

The woman in this vision represents Israel. This is shown by her clothing of the sun and moon and twelve stars (perhaps symbolizing the twelve tribes of Israel). She gives birth to "Christ, the promised son of Israel and of Eve" (ESV study bible, page 2479).

"She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days" (Rev 12: 5-6)

I love the imagery of Christ being exalted to God's throne, and the woman taking refuge in a place God prepared (as did Israel).  Reading through this chapter made me think of other times Israel and God's people was represented as a woman, "the bride of Christ." To be completely honest, I feel like the first time I heard the imagery of God's people being "the bride of the Lamb" it didn't make sense to me and I thought it sounded a little strange.  The experience of being a bride and participating in marriage, combined with getting to know God more and Him working on my heart over time - has really brought a lot more understanding and weight to this imagery.

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying 'Behold the dwelling place of God is with man, He will dwell with them and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.'" (Rev 21:1-3)

I love the relationship these two chapters in Revelation have. In chapter 12, the woman (Israel) fled to the wilderness where God had prepared a place for her. Similar to our life here on Earth where we are dependent on God but also protected by Him. In chapter 21, we see the holy city being prepared as a bride. The wife of the Lamb. She is the holy city Jerusalem. God's redeemed people. Now we see the new city God has prepared where there is no suffering and we are adorned as a bride. (ESV study bible, page 2494).

So, that is my rather long and probably very confusing story about how I came up with the idea for this print. To put it simply: I used the imagery from chapter 12 and text from chapter 21.

Purchase the print here.

I am so pleased with how it turned out. It was one of the very few times where you have a picture in your head of how you want something to look, and it completely meets that expectation. I hope you all like it too, and think the imagery is cool.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my new prints and I didn't bore you too much! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
